Well, it's here

"Mama, why don't you write on your blog anymore?"

I stop typing the press release I'm working on and look down at my girl's pale face, her dark brown and uncharacteristically watery eyes.

"Honey, I- well I've been busy with my job and you kids... and well... I don't know. Why do you ask?"

"Because I miss it."

"You miss it," I say with a smile, "but Honey, you didn't really read it."

"I did sometimes. And I liked it."

Suddenly I can see my little girl, sitting on my lap, staring at my computer screen as I type -- asking questions or laughing about the post I'm writing as the words appear one-by-one on the screen in front of us.

"I miss it too... Honey, do you want me to read you more Potter?

"Yes!" she says, then coughs loudly for several long seconds into her arm. I lean down and kiss her forehead.

Hot again.

"Sweetie, let's check your temp again first, okay?"

She's been home all week... fever and coughing.

H1N1

Her school nurse told me she's been sending 3-6 kids home a day.

And now, Joseph has it too.

He woke up this morning with a sore throat and a 100 degree fever -- exactly the same as Evan last Friday. I've got a call in to his endo.

Has anyone out there had H1N1? Anyone's child with diabetes? Did you use Tamiflu?

I would treat this like other flu as well . I would get face masks and hand sanitizer , soup , juice , and popsicles , sugar free of course , and make sure you are a fiend about washing their hands . I hope all goes well and they get well soon .

Sandra, I miss it when you don't blog, too. I always smile when I come across you in the headlines. :)

I hope your little ones feel better.

No advice - but I will be watching your blog so you can tell me what to do when it hits at our house. Good luck and I hope everyone feels better soon.

My 8 year old son had H1N1 about 3 weeks ago -- his blood sugars actually did great (they ran high -- but not really high --hovered in the 200's with no ketones. He had up to 103 fever, body aches and nausea. The worst of it lasted 3 days which was shorter than I was expecting. He was given a prescription for an inhaled anti vial powder called Relenza (which is similar to Tamiflu apparently)

Thanks. Me too.

That's exactly what we're doing, though it's hard not to worry.

Val & David

Thanks :-)

Mel -

I'll try to post updates on how we're doing.

Rachel -

Glad it hasn't hit you guys. And thanks.

Thank you so much! This is exactly what I was hoping someone could share when I posted this entry.

So glad to hear that your son is fine and made it through without too much difficulty.

Joseph started Tamiflu late this morning. His bgs have been pretty good all day, but his fever started climbing higher tonight- and I can hear him coughing upstairs in bed right now.

I really hope his experience with this thing is similar to your son's.

We just got back from the Dr. yesterday - My daughter is 3 & T1. Were worried about flu but it was strep. Dr. was going to give us Tamiflu had the test been positive. We'll be praying for you all.

Sandra,

My heart sank when I read this. I think as parents of kids with T1 H1N1 is always in the back of our minds. Please keep us posted on how things go.

Sandra

Sorry to hear both your darlings have H1N1. Prayers for a fast recovery.

Do let us know if you find out anything, with my chest issues I'm really worried about H1N1

I just posted an update. And yes, I know what you mean about this thing being in the back of our minds. I've been bracing myself for the possibility that Joseph might get this and that it would be so much worse for him if he did.

But it's my little girl who's struggling with it.
