We're Diggin' This Snow
As most of you know, we midwesterners got smacked with (not one, but) two major snowstorms last weekend.
The result?
Massive amounts of heavy, wet, drifting snow.
Sounds awful, doesn't it?
Well people, my kids could not have been happier.
You see, whenever we got snow this winter, bitterly cold temperatures kept it light and powdery.
Fine if you're into skiing-- but if you like to throw snowballs, or build things with it, the stuff is worthless.
Needless to say, my children (and their friends) took full advantage of the awesome conditions-- the fabulously sticky snow, and the warmer (low 30s) temps...
This year, insisting on making a "no-adult-help" fort.
Thus, they:
Burrowed through the front of a snow bank, made a turn inside...
and tunnelled out the other end.
Yes, they were all quite pleased with their handiwork.
Oh, and since the kids wouldn't let me help them with their fort, I made a snowman instead...
Yeeee-Hah!

So jealous. We've had two ice storms. That's it. Not exactly a winter wonderland. Snow forts rock. Very nice snow sculpture.
Most. AMAZING. snowman. EVER!!!!
Here in the NE, lots of ice with the snow(also the powder kind. It is creating havok with our backyard ice rink. However, over the years, we have found that the cold is great for the BS(that's blood sugar, not the other...). Casey love to skate, play hockey and just "hang" in the snow. Love it when they can just be kids....
Hi there. Was just surfing and ran across your page.
Love the weather we're having... yeah, well kinda. Your snowman is AWESOME and the tunnel your kids did was great!
That snowman is so cool! (so is the fort! - made many of those tunnels as a kid).
Right now we're getting hit with a major snowstorm - I could use some of your sculptures in my front yard to put a smile on my face - cause right now I don't smile when I look out there and see piles upon piles of snow (where is spring??). LOL. Great pics.
that is the most amazingly spectacular snowman that i have ever seen in my whole life! you're so creative!
That's like some kind of mystical snow spirit. I bet you had a lot of cars slow down as they drove by your yard.
No..........I am not diggin' the snow.
Wow! What a cool snow fort! And the snowman?! Awesome!
Here in MN we're getting hit again this weekend. They closed work down early and we might be off tomorrow too!
SNOW DAY! SNOW DAY!
Your snowfall is NOTHING, NOTHING I tell you (compared to what we've had). I'm sending you pics from my brother to compare snowfall from the other side of town, though. ;)
I love the cute pose that Evan is showing off and that snow sculpture- wonderful!
Sexy snowwoman;) !!! Im getting (i have gotten) really tired of the snow already. It just keeps on snowing and doesnt let up. Weird enough though, since it is snowing so much it hasnt been as cold, just -20 now.
Enjoy it for me!
Sexy snow chick. Aren't you talented!
I hate snow. I can't wait for spring.
What a snowman!!! I never seen anything like that and I lived in Siberia for 16 years with snow 7 months a year, oh, I miss it so much!
Cute kids and awesome snowman.
What an excellent snow-creation you built, Sandra. I'm very impressed!
And cool fort!
I remember burrowing deep into snow banks when I lived in Colorado as a kid. I live in Texas now and we are lucky to have a few flakes per year. My daughter craves snow...maybe a trip to your next of the wwods next year!
We did get some sleet this year with some snow on top and built a snowman that was about 12 inches high this year! whoo hoo!
Look at the sculptist in action!! So cool!!
I remember the big snowstorm of '78 in NJ and my brother and I had a blast digging tunnels in the deep snow.
I love snow.
Thanks for the compliments on both the fort (Joseph was happy to hear all of the kudos) and my snowman.
I haven't done any sculpting in a while-- so making this felt really good.
Oh, and Shannon--
I was in MA during the Blizzard of '78. Can still see my mom dragging a sled down the middle of our street -- through drifting snow -- in order to buy milk.
Largest snowfall I've ever seen...
Yeah, it was awesome!
Very Kewl Sculpture you made.
An artist with words AND snow...I'm impressed!
